Dr. Ernst Wendland

John Beekman Lecture Series

Dr. Wendland has been teaching at the Lutheran Seminary in Lusaka, Zambia, since 1968 and is a retired United Bible Societies Translation Consultant. He is an External Examiner in Zambian languages at the University of Zambia and a Visiting Professor in the Department of Ancient Studies at the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa). He is the author of numerous studies on the Bantu languages of South Central Africa, biblical exegesis, literary-poetic analysis, rhetorical criticism, and translation theory and practice.

 

Dr. Sameh Hanna

Eugene A Nida Lecture Series

Dr. Sameh Hanna is currently a Global Translation Advisor in-training with United Bible Societies. After earning his PhD from University of Manchester/UK, he got an Andrew Mellon postdoctoral scholarship in the Humanities at University College London, followed by two lectureships at University of Salford and University of Leeds where he was the director of Arabic, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies before joining UBS. His main research is within the area of sociology of translation, with focus on the socio-cultural dynamics of the translation and reception of canonical texts (including Shakespeare’s work and the Bible) in Arab-Islamic settings. Currently, he is an associate editor of Target.

Dr. Michel Kenmogne

Lamin Sanneh Lecture

Dr. Michel Kenmogne is the Executive Director of SIL International since 2016. Before his appointment, he served as director of Wycliffe Global Alliance for Francophone Africa, director of Wycliffe Cameroon, and as a visiting lecturer at three universities in Cameroon. For 10 years, he led the Francophone Initiative, a network of various Bible agencies to build vision for Bible Translation in seminaries and theological institutions across Francophone Africa. He holds a doctorate in African Linguistics from the University of Buea in Cameroon. He and his wife, Laure Angèle, have five children and live in Kandem, Germany.

 
 

Teryl Gonzalez

Closing Plenary

Teryl is a member of Wycliffe USA, currently serving in the Global Partnerships Strategic Innovation Group, as “Strategic Quality Assurance Development Consultant”. She and her husband Ray began their ministry with SIL serving as Exegetical Advisors on a New Testament translation project in Eurasia. In 2010 Teryl began working as a Consultant-in-Training with Seed Company in Nigeria. Since that time, she has served in Seed Company as Bible Translation Consultant, Team Leader for Anglophone Africa, Global Bible Translation Training Coordinator, and most recently as Acting Vice President of Bible Translation for Seed Company, concluding that service in 2019. Teryl is currently engaged in a DMin study program at Sioux Falls Seminary. Ray and Teryl have three sons and three grandsons, and live in Atlanta.
